The truth made known to man,
That God has spoken to the earth,
His pow’r is here again.
Lesson
FOR CHILDREN
Begin with the following object lesson. Take apart a flashlight. Show the children that the batteries are inside, the light is working, and all the parts are properly in place. Then, put it back together. Ask the children why the flashlight isn’t working. You need to turn it on! Have them on the flashlight. Explain that a flashlight must have power in order to work.
Read aloud: Did you know Heavenly Father has power? His power is called the priesthood. The priesthood lets us serve others, give blessings, and do good in God’s name. We need permission to use God’s power. After Jesus died, the world became very wicked, and God took away the permission to use the priesthood.
Take the batteries out of the flashlight and try to turn it on and off.
Even though people loved God and tried to do what was right, his power was gone. But He promised it would be restored.
Hold up the following image:
Heavenly Father restored His priesthood power to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. Because of the priesthood, they were able to baptize others, partake of the sacrament, and give blessings.
Ask: Why is the priesthood important to you?
Finish the lesson by sharing any relevant personal experiences about the priesthood. Answer any questions the children may have. Close with your testimony.
FOR TEENS & ADULTS
Begin the lesson by watching the following video. Ask everyone to think about what this video teaches us about the priesthood and the nature of God.
Read aloud: The restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood through Joseph Smith was essential for the work of God to go forward. Through the Aaronic Priesthood, we have “the keys of the ministering of angels” and “of the gospel of repentance.” We are able to partake of the sacrament, minister, and aid in baptisms.
Have everyone read through D&C 13 (including the subheading) or do it as a group. Ask everyone to think about the blessings they’ve received because of the Aaronic Priesthood.
Ask: What blessings have you received in your life because of the Aaronic Priesthood?
Finish the lesson by sharing any relevant personal experiences about the priesthood. Close with your testimony.
FOR SINGLE STUDY
Watch the video above. Then, answer the following question in your study journal: How can I follow the example of Joseph and Oliver by asking questions? What questions do I have for God? Consider taking time to look for answers to one of those questions.

Activity
Homemade Break the Ice
Place two or three tissues over a cup and secure with a rubber band. Place 3 dice on top. Everyone gets a turn to poke a hole in the tissue paper with a toothpick. The goal is to avoid being the person who causes the dice to drop into a cup.
