Indexing is an important part of family history and genealogical work; it is the process by which users transcribe information from historical documents so they are easy to search online.
For years, Latter-day Saint members around the world have set indexing goals for their youth groups, wards, and stakes. Now Family Search, the Church’s official family history website, is planning a worldwide indexing event that aims to break records.
From August 7 to August 14, Family Search is inviting you to index one batch and help someone else do the same. Their goal is to have 100,000 people volunteer in one week. The theme is Fuel the Find, which comes from the idea that “indexed records are like the fuel that gives FamilySearch.org the power to connect people to their missing family members. Every name you index adds another drop of precious fuel that can help someone else to find their ancestors.”
Want to join the event and encourage your family, friends, and ward members to get involved? Join the movement here!
