Scripture
Thou shalt be diligent in preserving what thou hast, that thou mayest be a wise steward; for it is the free gift of the Lord thy God, and thou art his steward.
Hymn
Count Your Blessings | Hymn #241
1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings; name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
(Chorus)
Count your blessings;
Name them one by one.
Count your blessings;
See what God hath done.
Count your blessings;
Name them one by one.
Count your many blessings;
See what God hath done.
2. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings; ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.
(Chorus)
3. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you his wealth untold.
Count your many blessings; money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven nor your home on high.
(Chorus)
4. So amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged; God is over all.
Count your many blessings; angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
(Chorus)
Lesson
*Suitable for All Ages*
Begin by watching this video. Before you begin watching, ask everyone to pay attention to what this video can teach us about money management.
Ask: What did you learn from this video about money management?
Read aloud: Money can be an interesting thing to talk about! When we think about money, we often associate it with greed or envy. However, the ability to make money and support our families is a blessing from God. God wants us to be wise stewards over all that we have. That means we manage our money with responsibility and care, seeking to help our loved ones and build the kingdom of God.
Money management can be hard! It takes a lot of discipline to use and save money wisely.
Ask: What are some poor ways to manage our money? What are some principles God has taught about how to use money?
Review the following principles based on your needs as ideas on how to manage money:
- Tithing
- Savings
- Living within a budget
- Avoiding unnecessary luxuries
- Being generous to others
Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony about how God wants us to enjoy life, but be wise stewards of our money. Use the activity at the bottom of the lesson or one of your own to then teach a money management skill.

Treat
Ingredients:
-1 1/2 cups smooth almond butter
– 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp honey
– 1/2 cup coconut oil, melted and cooled
– 2/3 cup chopped raw almonds
– sea salt (optional)
Directions:
Line a 12 cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
In a medium mixing bowl, cream together the almond butter, honey (or maple) and vanilla extract. Then whisk in the melted and cooled coconut oil until smooth.
Stir in the almonds and the pinch of sea salt, then spoon the mixture evenly into the cupcake liners (this recipe made 14 generous fudge cups for me.)
Freeze for 15-20 minutes until firm, then enjoy! Store leftovers covered and chilled in the freezer or refrigerator (for a softer creamier texture.) They’ll melt if left too long at room temperature!

Activity
Savings & Budget Planning
Give your child a piece of paper and have them spend a minute thinking of something they would really like to buy. Have them draw or print out a picture of it.
Then, have them write down any income they make. This can be from an allowance, money from chores, or a possible income from babysitting/mowing lawns/etc. Help them determine how long it may take for them to save. Talk together about how they can reach their goal if they save wisely.
