Joseph Smith History 1:16-17

But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction—not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being—just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!

Go Forth with Faith | Hymn #263

1. Go forth with faith to tell the world
Of Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Bear witness he is God’s own Son;
Proclaim his wondrous word.
Go forth with hope and courage strong
To spread the word abroad
That people of all nations
Are children of our God.

2. Go forth with love to tell the world
The joy of families–
That we may be with those we love
Thru all eternity.
Go forth to serve and do your best
With no thought of reward;
Then you shall know the boundless joy
Of serving Christ, the Lord.

3. Go forth with pow’r to tell the world
The gospel is restored,
That all may gain eternal life
Thru Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Go forth to preach his glorious truths
Of peace, of joy, and love,
That all who heed his holy word
May praise the Lord above.

*Suitable for All Ages*

Begin by holding in your hand a small photo of Jesus Christ for everyone to see. Make sure to have another exact copy of this photo hidden and ready for the end.

Read aloud: When Jesus Christ was on the Earth, he established his Church with proper authority. He instituted many ordinances and commandments, including baptism, prayer, and priesthood authority. After Christ and his Apostles died, many of these precious truths were lost.

Carefully rip up the photo and pass out the pieces.

Read aloud: Many people had pieces of Christ’s truth. It is like looking at this little piece you have. The truth is good and they followed Christ to the best of their understanding. But without all of the pieces, the completeness of the Church and Christ’s teachings were lost. A restoration was needed.

Ask: What does it mean to restore something?

Hold the second, whole picture of Christ up. If youare able, give a new photo of Christ for everyone to keep.

Read aloud: To restore means to return something to it’s former or original condition. When we speak of the Restoration as an event in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are referring to multiple acts of restoration when Jesus Christ returned his original church and authority to the Earth after the Great Apostasy. Because of this, we have a full and complete understanding of Christ and his church.

Watch the following video:

Ask: What does the Restoration teach us about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ?

Read aloud: Through the Restoration, we learn that God loves all of his children and continues to lead us and guide us today. We learn the pattern of prophets is still intact and priesthood authority to perform saving and exalting ordinances is available to all who are worthy to partake of them.

Ask: What blessings have you experienced because of the Restoration?

Finish the lesson by bearing your testimony of Jesus Christ and the Restoration. If time permits share how you acquired a testimony of the Restoration.
