He learns that answers from God often require patience, humility, and a willingness to act on what is received. This is especially true in D&C 9:7-8, where the Lord instructs Oliver not only to “ask” but also to “study it out in your mind” first.

This teaches us that revelation is not always immediate, but requires a combination of personal effort, prayer, and faith. It also emphasizes that while God is always ready to assist us, we must first prepare ourselves to receive answers by pondering, praying, and acting with faith.

These teachings offer us valuable lessons today. Just like Oliver, we may have questions or be uncertain about the next steps in our personal lives, callings, or decisions.

Doctrine and Covenants 6-9 remind us that revelation is a process and that God is willing to guide us through the Holy Spirit. He will not only answer our questions but will also help us learn how to ask the right questions and how to discern the Spirit’s guidance as we act in faith.

As we continue through these sections, we see that the Lord’s responses are not just about answering Oliver’s immediate concerns but about helping him and all of us develop a deeper relationship with God through personal revelation.
