Encountering Christ in Everyday Moments

One day, I was searching through online images to help spark my imagination for a project I was working on. I came across a group of one-line drawings.

If you don’t know what one-line drawings are, it is a straightforward concept.

An artist makes a work of art — out of one line.

Seriously, one line. That’s it.

They set their pen or pencil down, move it around a lot, and by the time they pick it up, they have a picture.

I became enthralled looking through these drawings.

Thinking about how difficult that process must have been overwhelmed me. I could never do that.

As I continued to scroll, I was suddenly struck by an image. My breath was taken away.

It was a one-line drawing of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

This artist found Christ with a simple line.

While I sat pondering again how difficult it must have been for an artist to find Christ, with one simple line, the spirit filled me with comfort.

Words spoke in my mind, “The artist knew how to find me with a single line, just as you can find me in the many simple things around you.”

A montage of experiences began flashing through my mind. Everyday moments throughout my life when I saw Him.

He was there.

Confirmation flowed through me. If an artist can find Christ in a simple line, we can find Him anywhere.

Days passed with this moment always on my mind.

It caused me to pause and spend more time looking for Christ — I found Him everywhere.

It reminded me of a talk that President Henry B. Eyring gave several years ago titled, Remember Remember.

President Eyring spoke of a service that his father-in-law provided for his family. The spirit prompted him to write the experience down,

“And as I did, I understood the message I had heard in my mind. I was supposed to record for my children to read, someday in the future, how I had seen the hand of God blessing our family.”

He continued writing these special moments down. He expressed, “As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.”

We can look at our lives.

We can find the evidence.

We can show not only ourselves but all of God’s children that He is in the details of our lives.

Encountering Christ in Everyday Moments- a new blog and book series- was created for this purpose. An opportunity to help us all keep Christ in the Everyday Moments of our lives.
