The First and Last Testimonies of President M. Russell Ballard

On April 3, 1976, President M. Russell Ballard was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy. He was serving as the mission president in the Canada Toronto Mission at the time and completed his mission while simultaneously acting as a general authority. In that General Conference, President Ballard gave his first testimony as a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“On October 1, 2023, nearly 50 years later, President Ballard gave what would be his final address to the body of the Church. In it he said, “I’ll soon be 95. My children tell me they think I’m a lot older than that some days, but that’s OK. I’m doing the best I can.”

President Ballard speaking 2010.

“But for nearly 50 years, brothers and sisters, I’ve had the privilege to cover the world in my assignment as a General Authority of the Church. It’s been a wonderful blessing. I think I’ve gotten pretty close to almost all parts of the world. I’ve met with members of the Church all over the world.”

“Oh, how I love you.”
