Since I watched the new Star Wars movie “The Force Awakens” I’ve been thinking continually about light versus darkness.
In the movie, one of the most impactful scenes for me personally was when Kylo Ren was talking to the old helmet of Darth Vader, who, SPOILER ALERT, is his grandfather.
In the scene he tells his grandfather, “Forgive me. I feel it again… the call from light.”
I believe this statement is a key principle to our spiritual survival. In order to live in the world but not be of the world, we must realize that God and Christ are continually calling to us. They love us no matter who we are or what we have done. No matter how much we have given in to the power of the Dark Side, they will keep calling to us to come back to the light. Why? Because regardless of our choices we will always be children of God. Our identity is independent of our choices. Our choices may influence how we feel about ourselves, but they will never change our identity and how much God loves us.
In my own life, I have personally felt the call from light time and time again. Whether it was in the dead of night feeling I should pray or amidst the surrounding chaos feeling prompted to uplift a stranger, the light has called to me time and time again. With that said, I am not unique in any way, shape, or form. Anyone can feel what I have felt. Anyone can feel the light as often as they wish. The key is, once you feel the light, you must obey the light.
Just like an alarm clock, the more you obey its call the greater your ability is to hear it in the future. But if you ignore your alarm clock, your ability to hear its call will diminish.
In order to hear the call from light, you must first train your senses to tune out the complexity, chaos, and filth of this world. I have found this is most effectively done through meditation and pondering. Once you have meditated long enough and have caused a stillness within, you will begin to feel your surroundings like never before. You will begin to understand that everything on earth is connected. Then in the quiet stillness you have created, ask your Father in Heaven with sincerity of heart and real intent… “Are you really there?” And I promise you… You will hear the call from light!
You need the light.
The light needs you.
You need the light to save yourself from the dark side.
The light needs you to save others from the dark side.
Life is challenging, but no matter who we’ve been or what we’ve done our future can be that of a Jedi Master.
