Bountiful Utah Temple Spire Dismantled
The granite-faced spire and angel Moroni that have topped the Bountiful Utah Temple for over 20 years was stripped to its steel framework this week. Scaffolding rows have been placed atop the temple as crews work on repairing the spire. Repairs will include the removal of rust from the metal framing and improving airflow. The temple will remain open during the project except during a previously scheduled maintenance closure in the latter half of July.
Cladding Visible on North Wall of Concepción Chile Temple
Scaffolding was removed this week to reveal the north wall of the Concepción Chile Temple. The white stone is a reflection of the temple’s holy status as a House of the Lord.
Flowers Planted at Tucson Temple Grounds
An array of colorful flowers has been planted at the Tucson Arizona Temple. The landscaping is complete just in time for the VIP and media open house tours beginning this week. The general public will be received beginning Saturday 3 June 2017. The open house will continue through Saturday 24 June.
Brick Laying Begins at Kinshasa DRC Temple
Structural framing is in place for the roof of the Kinshasa Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple. Work has begun on attaching the white insulating block and on laying brick over the waterproofed concrete block walls. The brick will be finished at a later time with white stucco.
Preparing for the Rio Temple Footings
Crews have set rebar and concrete forms in preparation for the concrete footings for the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple. The temple is estimated to be completed mid-2019.
Tower Walls Poured for the Fortaleza Brazil Temple
Scaffolding has been removed from the tower walls atop the west end of the Fortaleza Brazil Temple. The patron housing facility is progressing at the same rate as the temple, but the on site meetinghouse is progressing at a slower rate.
New Temple Presidents Called to Serve in Philippines and Texas
The First Presidency has called the following new temple presidents and matrons.
Manila Philippines Temple
Carlos Condeno Revillo Sr. and Amparo Rivera García Revillo have been called as president and matron of the Manila Philippines Temple.
- Brother Revillo was born in Davao, Philippines and has previously served as an Area Seventy, president of the Philippines Tacloban Mission, and a counselor in the Manila Philippines Temple presidency.
- Sister Revillo was born in Tupi, South Cotabato, Philippines and has previously served as a district Relief Society and Primary president, and stake Young Women president.
San Antonia Texas Temple
Terry Jackson Orgill and La Dell Irene Crouch Orgill have been called as president and matron of the San Antonio Texas Temple.
- Brother Orgill was born in Phoenix, Arizona and has previously served as a bishop, high councilor, and as a member of a mission presidency and stake presidency.
- Sister Orgill was born in Tucson, Arizona nad has previously served as stake and ward Young Women president, stake Primary president, and ward family history consultant.
