It’s easy to think of the members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as always having been venerable, wise, and to be honest, kind of old. But the truth is they were boys once too and they all had loving mothers. In honor of Mother’s Day, we have twelve pictures of the Twelve Apostles’ wonderful mothers.
Mercedes Carecho Suarez
Elder Ulisses Soares’s mother, Mercedes Ceracho Suarez. She joined the Church alongside her family in 1965 when Elder Soares was six years old.

Mariana Andersson Renlund

Elder Dale G. Renlund’s mother, Mariana Andersson. She was born in Sweden and served a building mission for the Church in Sweden from 1963 to 1966.
Jean Hall Stevenson

Elder Gary E. Stevenson with his mother, Jean Hall Stevenson. She enjoyed her role as Lambda Delta Sigma advisor at Utah State University.
Verda Anderson Rasband

Elder Ronald A. Rasband with his mother, Verda Anderson Rasband. Verda was very crafty and an excellent seamstress. She was known for making beautiful porcelain lace dolls.

On the far left, Elder Neil L. Anderson’s mother, Kathryn Anderson. Raising her children on a farm in Colorado helped instill in them principles of hard work.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson with his mother, Jeanne Swenson Christofferson. Jeanne underwent radical cancer surgery in 1957 and developed a tenacity in her that would become one of her strongest character traits.
Bernice Kimball Cook

Elder Quentin L. Cook with his brother and mother, Bernice Kimball Cook. She had a lifelong interest in sports and was an avid golfer.
Lavina Whitney Bednar

Elder David A. Bednar’s mother, Lavina Whitney Bednar. She was a descendant of faithful pioneers and had a steady faith.
Hildegard Else Opelt Uchtdorf

Alice Bentley Holland

Elder Jeffery R. Holland with his mother, Alice Bentley Holland. She served faithfully as a volunteer telephone operator in the St. George Temple for nearly 25 years.
Geraldine Smith Ballard

Elder M. Russell Ballard’s mother, Geraldine Smith Ballard. She is a descendent of Hyrum Mack Smith.
After serving a mission to Samara, Russia, Tyler graduated from Utah Valley University with a degree in Creative Writing. Tyler is the author of Away From The Sun, a short collection of his written works, is the host of the Mission Report podcast, and runs the To Be Determined… blog. He lives in Provo with his drop-dead gorgeous wife, enjoys playing basketball, playing the banjo, studying history, and collecting Pokemon cards.
