Army Awards Slain LDS Teen Medal of Heroism

On February 14, 14-year-old LDS teen and JROTC cadet Alaina Petty was killed in the horrific shooting that left 17 dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Flordia.

This week, the United States Army awarded Petty and three other slain JROTC teens Medals of Heroism, the highest medal for ROTC cadets. The other JROTC victims are Peter Wang and Martin Duque. Those awarded the Medal of Heroism have shown great character during an act of heroism, “exemplifying praiseworthy fortitude and courage.”

The Petty family received the medal on Monday, February 19, at the funeral service for their lost daughter, sister, and friend. Over 1,500 people were in attendance and Petty’s coffin was draped in an American flag.
