Body of Missing RM Elizabeth Salgado Found

UPDATE, May 24, 2018, 10 am MDT: A press conference has been held. Watch it below.

On April 16, 2015, Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado, a 26-year-old Provo student from Mexico, was walking the two miles home from her language class in the middle of the afternoon. Some of her classmates saw her walking home.

After that, Elizabeth seemed to vanished into thin air. She never made it home and failed to meet her uncle for a grocery shopping trip later that evening. She was reported missing and intense search efforts began.

Nothing surfaced. Even investigations by the FBI and Interpol produced no trace of her.

Now, three years later, Elizabeth’s body has been found in Hobble Creek Canyon in Springville, Utah. No additional details about the discovery have been made, though the case is being treated as a homicide. Officials from local and national law enforcement plan to hold a press conference Thursday morning.

Check back for updates as this story develops.

Elizabeth was a recently returned missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an active member of her local congregation. She had only been in Provo for three weeks at the time of her disappearance.
