Extensive flooding has left a trail of destruction in parts of Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. Many have lost their lives or their livelihood. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has congregations in the areas affected by the disaster and is encouraging its members to lend a helping hand.
“Our hearts and prayers are with those who are suffering,” said Christian Ottiker, Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager for the Church in the Europe Area. His department is currently coordinating with local congregations, relief organizations, and the authorities to identify initiatives with the greatest need and impact.
In the meantime, members of the Church are encouraged to support local efforts to provide relief to flood victims. They may contact their own county administration or reputable charities to offer assistance. Those who wish to make a financial contribution are invited to donate to the Church’s Humanitarian Fund to enable projects which benefit people in need.
