Sara Lopez, a faithful latter-day saint, is celebrating her victory after winning the Eugene Marathon in April. Her triumph qualifies her to compete in the Olympic Marathon Trials in 2024.
Her journey to success has not been easy. Lopez began running and competing in junior high. She began seeing success and had huge goals of running at Brigham Young University.
Much to her disappointment, injuries, eating disorders and a move out of the country put her dreams on hold. However, even through her anger Sara gained a new perspective and saw how aware God was of her.
As she prepares for the Olympic Trials in February 2024, Sara has an open heart. She told The Church News, “My main goal is to get to the starting line healthy and run the best race possible. No matter what, I know Heavenly Father is with me throughout this whole journey, and that brings me peace.”
