LGBTQ Group at BYU Reminds Us That Everyone Needs a Savior

Understanding Same Gender Attraction is an unofficial group of LGBTQ/SSA students at Brigham Young University, one of the Church’s private universities. The goal of the group is “to strengthen families and the BYU community by providing a place for open, respectful discussions on the topic of same-gender attraction.” They stress that the group strongly supports BYU students in “upholding the Honor Code, and invite guests to do so as well while in attendance of USGA events.”

Earlier in April 2015, in light of controversy surrounding regarding same-sex couples and law changes in the United States, the group sought a way to remind us all that there is “no them, only us” and that those within the LGBTQ community can be spiritually seeking their Savior as much as anyone. The end result was the above video and campaign, #INeedHimToo. You can learn more about USGA at BYU at their official website. After “a tumultous few days” in which the Church announced policy clarifications, USGA decided to share the video again.
