Lightning Strike Damages Angel Moroni Statue

BOUNTIFUL – Lightning struck the Angel Moroni statue atop the Bountiful Utah temple Sunday afternoon. The lightning appears to have caused damage to the head and back of the statue.

Angel Moroni statues are engineered to act as a lightning rod as they are the tallest point of the building. This isn’t the first time that lightning has struck an Angel Moroni statue. In 2009, lightning struck the Angel Moroni statue on the Oquirrh Mountain temple approximately two months prior to its dedication. Lightning has also struck the Timpanogos Utah, San Diego California, Denver Colorado, and Dallas Texas temples.
