An unidentified man was shot and wounded in a Latter-day Saint church parking lot in Sandy, Utah, Monday evening, police reports state.

Neighbors heard gunshots around 5 p.m. and called police. Sandy Police responded to the meetinghouse near Monroe Street at 8835 South and discovered a man in his 30s with at least two gunshot wounds and suspects fleeing in a dark-colored SUV. They have not yet been apprehended and the man shot is currently in stable condition.

According to Sandy Police Sergeant Greg Moffitt, it is unclear if the suspects and victim have a connection to the church or if they were simply hanging out in the empty parking lot. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
