Mia Love, the trailblazing former congresswoman and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, passed away on March 23, 2025, after a valiant three year fight with brain cancer. She was 49 years old.
Love, who made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, was known not only for her political achievements but also for her deep faith and dedication to serving others.

Her testimony of the gospel shaped her, giving her the courage to stand firm in her beliefs and the compassion to lift those around her.
As the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, Mia broke barriers. But she never let the world define her by titles or achievements. At her core, she was a woman who knew God. She prayed in the hardest moments, sought His guidance in her decisions, and relied on His strength through every challenge. She was sealed for eternity to her husband, Jason, in the Mount Timpanogos Temple, and she carried that eternal perspective into everything she did.

During difficult days and at significant moments, Mia’s natural instinct was to get on her knees and raise her voice to heaven, asking that she would have the strength and courage to meet the moment,” her obituary continued.
Mia used her voice to uplift, to testify, and to inspire. She believed in the power of agency, the importance of service, and the reality of God’s hand in our lives. Even as she faced her final battle with cancer, her faith remained unwavering. She knew that God had a plan for her, in this life and beyond.
Mia’s legacy is one of conviction, courage, and Christlike love. She proved that discipleship isn’t confined to chapels and quiet moments—it’s something we carry into the world, into our communities, and into every act of service. Her testimony continues to echo in the lives she touched.
“The heavens simply cannot contain the voice of this daughter, wife, mother, disciple, sister, friend, servant and voice for good,” her obituary concludes. “Mia’s work has not ended, it has just begun and will resound and reverberate in thankful hearts in the days and decades ahead.”
“Those who are wise will listen for her words in the winds of freedom, hear her loving hope from heaven above and recognize Mia’s call to each of us in the sound of every child who looks at the seemingly impossible and says, ‘I can do that!’ Mia’s voice will continue to rise, now with angelic wings and heavenly tones, inviting us all to live up to the principles that will inspire us to live, as she did, in a way that proclaims the true content of our character.”
