One of the largest genealogical conferences begins today as thousands join for RootsTech 2022. Hosted by FamilySearch, the conference is 100% free and 100% virtual this year, offering thousands of educational classes, workshops, and activities. An online Expo Hall also allows attendees to discover innovative companies and personalized help from experts around the globe.

Elder Ulisses Soares will be the keynote speaker for Family Discovery Day on Saturday, March 5. Other keynote speakers include actor Matthew Modine, boxing legend Samuel Azumah Nelson, French baker Apollonia Poilâne, and Grammy-award-winning artist Diego Torres.

The theme of the Conference is “Choose Connection.” According to the RootsTech website, “Choose Connection is a social movement that encourages people to connect with others—familial relationships, friendships, connections with a stranger, etc., because connection can enrich and bring meaning to our lives. Connection can take many forms, whether it be something simple like a “hello” to a stranger, to dinner with family, to connecting with people online, to going the extra mile to serve in your community, and more.

#ChooseConnection is all about uniting people worldwide while celebrating our diversity and highlighting how individuals choose connection over division.”

Elder David A. Bednar posted a video on social media with a personal invitation to the world to join in RootsTech. He said such connection is more important than ever in our currently fracturing world.
