What Can I Do About Me? Finding Peace After Betrayal

Peace, serenity, and even a measure of joy are available to you. There is always hope.

When betrayal or addiction breaks open our lives, our minds often go straight to fixing what has gone wrong around us. We think if our spouse would just stop the addiction, if the situation could just change, then we could finally breathe again.

Rather than forcing change where we have no control, God guides us to the one place healing is possible. We begin by asking: What can I do about me?

This question became a lifeline for Rhyll Croshaw, co-founder of S. A. Lifeline Foundation. After decades of sexual betrayal that impacted her marriage and family, her healing began the moment she turned away from trying to control her husband’s choices and instead turned to God with her own broken heart.

Her book What Can I Do About Me? is the outgrowth of that shift. It is a companion for anyone living in the aftermath of sexual betrayal. Its message: I can heal. God will meet me here. And my peace does not depend on someone else’s recovery.

The Invitation to Heal

After thirty two years of marriage and multiple disclosures of her husband’s acting out, Rhyll reached a moment of reckoning. She could no longer pretend that holding everything together by sheer will was working. The idea of surrender felt frightening, but God invited her to loosen her grip on outcomes she could never control.

She writes about the moment she finally said, “I am not in control. I cannot guarantee how this will turn out. But I can choose to trust God is with me.”

As she began practicing boundaries, honesty, and daily connection with God, something remarkable happened. Her circumstances did not suddenly improve. But she did. Her heart began to heal. Peace showed up in places she never believed it could. One day at a time, she found joy again.

Rhyll and her husband Steven now share a loving relationship grounded in honesty, accountability, and real trust. Their marriage is living proof that healing is possible and that recovery can create something stronger and more connected than what existed before.

Rhyll often summarizes her experience this way:
“I cannot. God can. I will let Him.”

A Pathway of Recovery for Betrayal Trauma

What Can I Do About Me? is not a quick fix or a guarantee that a marriage will be saved. It is a guide to walking your own recovery pathway with God at the center. The book offers practical and spiritual guidance for:

  • Setting healthy boundaries rooted in self-respect
  • Understanding the difference between forgiveness and trust
  • Finding qualified, trauma informed support
  • Choosing accountability and honesty in your own healing
  • Practicing self care as an act of faith, not selfishness

These are not steps we take once. They are practices we return to every day.

As Rhyll reminds readers, learning and growth take a lifetime. Recovery is not an event. It is a sacred process of learning healthy living skills as God walks with us.

You Are Not Alone

Too many carry the pain of betrayal alone, believing they should be able to endure silently. But isolation only deepens trauma.

S. A. Lifeline exists because families need spiritually grounded, professionally informed resources and community. Healing happens in connection with others who understand both the devastation of betrayal and the possibility of a hopeful future.

As one reader shared after finding support through these principles: “This book helped me stop trying to manage my husband’s addiction and start healing myself. I found peace in these pages.”

An Invitation for You

If you are in the thick of confusion, fear, or heartbreak, you may feel that peace is out of reach. But hope is not lost. You can begin healing without knowing what will happen in your marriage. You can turn to God and ask how He would have you surrender what you cannot carry alone.

Rhyll writes that her life today is filled with far more light than pain. Not because everything is easy, but because everything now includes God.

The same promise is extended to you.

Healing takes time. It takes honesty. It takes God.

And it begins with a simple, courageous question:

What can I do about me?
