Here’s your daily dose of what matters most!

The remedy for coveting begins with gratitude, the deliberate turning of our hearts toward what the Lord has already given rather than what we think we lack. When we remember that no earthly property can compare to the eternal blessings God offers the faithful, our envy softens into thankfulness, and contentment takes root where comparison once grew.

Scripture

“Let them repent of all their sins, and of all their covetous desires, before me, saith the Lord; for what is property unto me? saith the Lord.”—Doctrine and Covenants 117:4

Quote

“When gratitude fills our hearts, there is no room for unhappiness. … Happiness depends in large measure on our ability to feel gratitude for the abundance we already have. … A thankful heart allows us to face trials firm in the knowledge of Heavenly Father’s love for us.”—Carolyn Wright, “The Thankful Heart”

Living the Principle: The Remedy for Coveting

  • Identify a recurring source of comparison in your life and consciously replace thoughts of “I wish I had that” with a prayer of gratitude for something you already possess.
  • Give of your resources—time, talents, or means—to bless another person’s life, allowing generosity to loosen the grip of envy and reorient your heart toward service.
  • Reflect on moments when loss or limitation brought unexpected spiritual growth, recognizing that God’s blessings often appear in forms the world cannot measure.

Overcoming comparison, covetousness and envy of others resources and talents seems to be a chronic mental and spiritual illness of our day. These qualities among local leadership limit growth of the Church in our communities.
Your recommendations for healing this blight of mind is refreshing and we know gratitude works to improve our focus on the Savior while we trust in Him to direct us to find answers to our own difficulties. We can use that spiritual insight to build strength during growth periods of our lives and see that all things are given to us for our good.
Thank you for your message today!
