Here’s your daily dose of what matters most!
On Independence Day, we honor liberty best when our gratitude leads us to live with more faith, integrity, and responsibility. As we think about the blessings of this nation, we can ask how our choices help protect freedom, strengthen our communities, and show trust in God’s promises.
Scripture
“Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him whom [God] shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever.”—2 Nephi 1:7
Quote
“Our belief in divine inspiration gives Latter-day Saints a unique responsibility to uphold and defend the United States Constitution and principles of constitutionalism wherever we live. We should trust in the Lord and be positive about this nation’s future.”—Dallin H. Oaks, “Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution”

Living the Principle: Happy Independence Day!
- Choose one constitutional principle to learn more about, such as religious freedom, free speech, or due process, then look for one specific way to defend it fairly for others as well as ourselves.
- Choose one public issue to approach with more discipleship than outrage by learning carefully, speaking with restraint, and refusing to mock or dehumanize those who disagree.
- Pray for the nation and its leaders, then pair that prayer with one hopeful action: vote, serve, encourage civic goodness, teach a child about responsibility, or thank someone who protects our freedoms.
