Why Does Hollywood Keep Getting Strong Women Wrong?

From the video description:

Why does Hollywood so often portray a strong woman as someone who fights, dominates, and acts like an action hero?

Movies and television are filled with female characters who prove their strength through violence. But does copying traditionally masculine traits truly empower women, or does it ignore the qualities that make women powerful in their own right?

In this episode of Saints & Screens, we compare Hollywood’s version of female strength with characters like Evelyn Abbott in A Quiet Place, whose courage is shown through sacrifice, nurturing, resilience, and protecting her family. We also explore Elder D. Todd Christofferson’s teachings about faith, virtue, kindness, and the distinct strengths women bring to the world.

What movies or shows portray strong women well? Share your examples in the comments, and subscribe to Saints & Screens, where entertainment is the vehicle and the gospel is the destination.

Down By The Riverside” is an African American spiritual whose origins trace back to before the American Civil War. Passed down through generations, the song has become a powerful expression of hope, renewal, and harmony.

The Conquest of Canaan Didn’t Happen the Way You Think

From the video description:

When Israel entered Canaan, the Bible says they were commanded to leave “nothing alive that breathes.” Did God really command that — and did it actually happen? The Hebrew word behind the command, herem, tells a far more complicated story than you’ve heard.

Jasmin Rappleye, Neal Rappleye, and Stephen Smoot dig into David Calabro’s chapter on herem from From Wilderness to Monarchy (Religious Studies Center) — exploring what the word really means, what the archaeology of Jericho, Ai, and Hazor actually shows, and how Latter-day Saints can honestly face divine violence in scripture.

What we get WRONG about Elder Corbridge’s viral video

From the video description:

Latter-day Saints are divided over a recent video from Elder Lawrence Corbridge, in which he talks about why some people leave the Church. I agree with Elder Corbridge, BUT…
