UPDATE: According to our sources, the new California Modesto Mission will include the Turlock, Modesto, and Modesto North stakes and three stakes from the CA Sacramento Mission. The three northern stakes are likely to be Stockton, Lodi, and Manteca.
Desert News has also reported the creation of a new mission based in Yakima, Washington. It also discusses how this normally sensitive information was leaked through internal mission letters and other personal announcements. No official report is expected until January. Read here for more details.
Genelle Pugmire from the Daily Herald, a local Utah newspaper, reported today that the Church has approved new LDS mission boundaries to create an Orem Utah Mission:
The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has approved a new Utah Orem Mission that will open about July 1, 2015, according to a letter sent to missionaries in the Provo Mission through mission office communications.
The mission is being formed by a division of the Utah Provo Mission. It will cover the area from Orem north toward Salt Lake City, and will encompass some of the current areas in the Utah South Salt Lake Mission.
We’re also getting word that other missions are being split or having their boundaries rearranged. News came to missionaries in the California Fresno Mission letting them know the upper portion of the mission boundaries would be leaving to to help form a California Modesto Mission. LDS Daily expects the Church to release an official statement describing all mission changes soon, as is custom.
