The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple will take place Saturday, August 29, 2026. According to a Church Newsroom release, Elder Hutch U. Fale of the United States West Area Presidency will preside at the event.
A Temple Announced for Coeur d’Alene
The Church of Jesus Christ announced the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple in 2024. The newly announced groundbreaking date gives the temple project a clear next step as Church leaders prepare for the August 2026 ceremony.
The Church also shared an artistic rendering of the planned temple. The rendering gives members and residents a first look at the house of the Lord that will stand in Coeur d’Alene.
The announcement connects the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple to the Church’s continued temple work in Idaho. More than 480,000 Church members live in the state and worship in about 1,300 congregations.

The Church currently has seven dedicated temples in Idaho. These include the Boise Idaho Temple, Burley Idaho Temple, Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, Meridian Idaho Temple, Pocatello Idaho Temple, Rexburg Idaho Temple and Twin Falls Idaho Temple.
Several other Idaho temples are also moving through different stages. The Church has announced the Caldwell Idaho Temple, crews are constructing the Teton River Idaho Temple, and Church leaders will dedicate the Montpelier Idaho Temple on October 18, 2026.
With the Coeur d’Alene groundbreaking now scheduled, northern Idaho joins that larger list of temple developments in the state. The announcement places Coeur d’Alene among communities where the Church continues to prepare places for sacred temple worship.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is constructing temples all over the world,” President Oaks taught. “Their purpose is to bless the covenant children of God with temple worship and with the sacred responsibilities and powers and unique blessings of being bound to Christ they receive by covenant.”
His words place the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple announcement within the Church’s broader focus on covenants and worship. The release presents temple construction as part of the Church’s effort to help faithful members participate in sacred ordinances and receive promised blessings.
How Temples Serve Latter-day Saints
