Temple announcements for two new sacred buildings—one in the United States and one in West Africa—underscore the global growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church has released the exterior rendering for the Huntsville Alabama Temple and announced the site location for the Eket Nigeria Temple.

Huntsville, Alabama: Second Temple in the State
The future location of the Huntsville Alabama Temple. | Church NewsroomAn exterior rendering has been released for the Huntsville Alabama Temple, providing the public with a glimpse of the design for the state’s second temple. The temple will be constructed on a 21-acre site at the southeast corner of Gillespie and Browns Ferry Roads in Madison, Madison County.
Plans detail a single-story structure encompassing approximately 30,000 square feet. This temple was among 17 announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2024 general conference.
The Huntsville Alabama Temple will join the Birmingham Alabama Temple, which was dedicated in 2000 by former Church President Gordon B. Hinckley. Alabama is home to over 40,000 Latter-day Saints across more than 70 congregations.
Eket, Nigeria: New Temple Location Announced
The future location of the Eket Nigeria Temple. | Church NewsroomThe Church has also announced the future site for the Eket Nigeria Temple. It will be built on a 7-acre site located on Eket/Oron Road in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
The plans call for a one-story temple of approximately 18,850 square feet, along with a meetinghouse on the site. This will be the first temple in the city.
President Nelson announced this temple during the October 2022 general conference, emphasizing the blessings that come from increased time in the temple. The Eket Nigeria Temple is one of six temples planned for the country, joining others in Abuja, Benin City, Calabar, Lagos, and Uyo.
Nigeria currently has over 250,000 Latter-day Saints in 840 congregations.
