How to Get Your Kids to Care About Family History: An Unforgettable Journey (w/ Eric Allen) | Ep 128
From the video description:
Have you ever wondered how to move your family past politely nodding at old photos and into truly caring about where they come from? Today, my friend and Ancestry colleague, Eric Allen, returns to share how an intentional trip from Spanish Fork, Utah, all the way to the volcanic islands of Iceland turned family history into a living, physical anchor for his children.
Together, we explore what it takes to pass heritage down to the next generation—from standing in the exact footsteps of ancestors on the Westman Islands to preserving everyday kitchen traditions like “roll-up-ers.” Plus, Eric reveals a mind-blowing workplace discovery: after working together for six years, he found out his co-worker’s ancestor lived in the exact same house (Jónshús) as his own ancestor in Iceland before both families immigrated to the same Utah town!

“Saturday” – originally by the Boston-based retro-pop/soul band, Couch – is an upbeat song about how hard it is to prioritize rest when you’re spread too thin and overwhelmed by life. But we all need to have a little fun, right?

What Church Looked Like Before the 3-Hour Block
From the video description:
The first sacrament meeting of the Restoration was held on a Tuesday. Latter-day Saints once drank homemade currant wine from a shared cup, sang hymns one line at a time because half the congregation couldn’t read, and listened to music playing during the administration of the sacrament. Almost everything we picture when we say the word “church” is younger than we think.
Jasmin Rappleye, Neal Rappleye, and Stephen Smoot trace nearly two centuries of change in Latter-day Saint Sabbath worship — from open-air preaching in the Nauvoo grove to the 2026 two-hour block. There is no single standard history of this subject yet, so this episode pulls the thread together from separate histories of the sacrament, the Relief Society, the Sunday School, the Aaronic Priesthood, Primary, and the Young Women — including Justin Bray’s work on the early sacrament.
