New Testament Come Follow Me FHE Lesson – It is Finished

- Advertisment - Save on Great LDS Gifts

In His final moments, Christ exemplified forgiveness, love, and complete submission of His will to the Father. In this Come Follow Me FHE lesson, we discuss how Christ’s death and the totality of the Atonement have changed our lives. Each of our FHE lessons includes three lesson plans for different ages, treat recipes, activity ideas, and more.

John 19:30

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

There Is a Green Hill Far Away | Hymn #194

1. There is a green hill far away,
Without a city wall,
Where the dear Lord was crucified,
Who died to save us all.

2. We may not know, we cannot tell,
What pains he had to bear,
But we believe it was for us
He hung and suffered there.

3. There was no other good enough
To pay the price of sin.
He only could unlock the gate
Of heav’n and let us in.

4. Oh, dearly, dearly has he loved!
And we must love him too,
And trust in his redeeming blood,
And try his works to do.

Activity: Begin the lesson by inviting a child to hold a bag, and fill it with rocks as the other children name wrong choices someone could make. Help the children compare the bag to the spiritual burden we carry when we sin. You might remind the children that repentance is not a one-time event but a daily process.

Ask: How is repentance similar to taking rocks out of the bag?

Read: Jesus Christ wants to help us repent and be happy. Through the Atonement this is possible. Repentance is an ongoing process that will continue throughout our lives. Repenting can help us feel better and have more joy in our lives.

Share: Tell the children about a time in your life when you experienced the power of the Atonement.

Read: Jesus Christ Suffered for each of us. This event makes it possible for each of us to repent and be forgiven of our sins. Through the Atonement, we can know that we are never alone because Jesus understands each of us perfectly and will never leave us comfortless. The Atonement also makes it possible for each of us to live with our families for eternity. There is much to be grateful for because of the Atonement.

Ask: How can we show gratitude for the Atonement?

Testimony: Close with your testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Video: Begin the lesson by watching this video about the Crucifixion of the Savior Jesus Christ.

Ask: Why is it important to understand the suffering that Christ went through?

Read: Christ suffered on the cross for each one of us. He is the only one who truly understands what we have been through and what we will go through. He has already suffered for all of our sins and pains, we need to choose to give them over to him so we don’t suffer alone.

Share: Tell a personal story about a time you chose to let the atonement work in your life and how it made a difference.

Scripture: Have someone read Luke 23:34 and look for what we can learn about forgiveness from Christ’s example in this verse.

Testimony: Close with your testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ

Read the talk “None Were with Him” by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. As you read, consider how understanding the Atonement can help relieve feelings of loneliness.
