Temple News & Updates – Week of May 1

Here at LDSDaily.com, we know that members of the church sure love temples. However, I would only hear about the status of a temple when it was announced,  during the groundbreaking ceremony, the open house, the placement of the Angel Moroni, and the dedication. However, there is so much more going on with these sacred buildings that we just never hear about. So, we decided to post weekly (every Sunday) updates about the temples from around the world. What better way to stay up to date on what is going on with His holy houses.

Thanks to members of the church worldwide and our friends at LDSChurchTemples.com for providing these updates. If you have updates (including pictures or video) about a temple near you, feel free to send it to calledtoshare (at) ldsdaily.com.

Estimated completion is late 2017 to early 2018.

Concepción Temple Update

Construction Update: Preparations are underway to build the second story walls of the Concepción Chile Temple. It appears that the architectural design of the temple may stem from the Concepción Cathedral, which was destroyed after an earthquake in 1939.

Temple Facts: The Concepción Chile Temple was announced in the October 2009 session of General Conference. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in October 2015 by Elder Walter F. Gonzales. The temple will be approximately 23,000 square feet and will be the second temple built in Chile, behind the Santiago Chile Temple. The temple is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.

Meridian Temple Update

Construction Update: Lampposts are being installed in the parking lot of the Meridian Idaho Temple. The parking lot will service the temple and the stake center.

Temple Facts: The Meridian Idaho Temple was announced in the April 2011 session of General Conference. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in August 2014 by Elder David A Bednar. The temple will be approximately 65,960 square feet, will serve members Meridian, Nampa, Kuna, and Middleton. A new stake center is also being built on the land. The Meridian Idaho temple will be the fifth temple in the state of Idaho. Estimated completion is late 2017.

Cedar City Temple Update

Construction Update: New photographs of the Cedar City Utah Temple show the temple at the bottom of two rainbows. Construction of the exterior is in progress.

Temple Facts: The Cedar City Utah Temple was announced in the April 2013 session of General Conference. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in August 2015 by Elder L. Whitney Clayton. The temple will be approximately 42,657 square feet, will serve members in 17 stakes in Southern Utah and Eastern Nevada. The Cedar City Utah temple will be the seventeenth temple in Utah.
