Latter-day Saint temples continue to be built around the world as the gospel of Jesus Christ rolls forth. Here’s a quick look at temple news and updates from this last week.

Ground Broken for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Lubumbashi Democratic Republic of the Congo Temple was held on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Elder Matthew L. Carpenter, president of the Africa Central Area, was joined by his two counselors and numerous guests including dozens of government, community, and interfaith leaders. The temple will be 19,300 square feet (1,800 square meters) and be constructed on a 2.57-acre site along with ancillary buildings for patron and missionary housing and a distribution center.

Forming the Baptismal Fonts for the Salt Lake Temple

Oval-shaped forms have been set for the baptismal fonts that will sit on the east and west ends of the underground addition on the north side of the Salt Lake Temple. Construction of the addition began nine months ago following a massive excavation. On the south side, excavation for the new visitors’ center has been completed, and work on the substructure has begun. At the Church Office Building plaza, workers are installing planters and an elaborate snow-melt system for the concrete walkways.

An updated satellite view of the Phnom Penh Cambodia Temple site shows the footprints of the buildings that are under construction. The temple will be located on the south side of the property near the street while ancillary facilities will be housed at the northwest corner. Progress is being made on forming and pouring the footings for the buildings.

Construction observers who peer over the chain-link fence surrounding the Grand Junction Colorado Temple can see a variety of construction equipment and materials on site including a boom truck, excavators, portable security tower, conduit, rebar cages, and wooden pallets. Foundation work continues for the temple inside the excavation area. The groundbreaking ceremony was held just over four months ago.
