1891 Brigham Smoot and Alva J. Butler arrive in Tonga as the first Latter-day Saint missionaries to those islands. Exactly one year later they baptize Tonga’s first convert.
1987 The Genealogical Library celebrates the completion of transferring information from the card catalog system to a computer system.
1999 The American Society of Landscape Architects awards the Church a “once-in-a-century” medallion for its landscaping and gardens at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City.
