FHE Scripture

Moroni 10:4-5

4- And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5- And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may aknow the btruth of all things.

Book of Mormon Stories- Primary Song 118 or As I Search the Holy Scriptures Hymn 277

Book of Mormon Stories

1- Book of Mormon stories that my teacher tells to me
Are about the Lamanites in ancient history.
Long ago their fathers came from far across the sea,
Giv’n the land if they lived righteously.

2. Lamanites met others who were seeking liberty,
And the land soon welcomed all who wanted to be free.
Book of Mormon stories say that we must brothers be,
Giv’n the land if we live righteously.

Optional verses for “Book of Mormon Stories”:

3. Alma was rebellious, and he fought against the right.
Then one day an angel came to turn him to the light.
Struck before his brethren, Alma learned humility.
Then he taught in the land righteously.

4. Don’t forget Abinadi, who stood before the king.
All chained up from head to toe, the gospel he did bring.
If he would deny it, then the king would set him free.
He was true, and he died righteously.

5. Ammon was a missionary serving Lamanites,
Tending King Lamoni’s sheep for several days and nights.
Robbers came; he saved the sheep by fighting fearlessly.
He had learned he could live righteously.

6. Once two thousand sons of God were called to fight the foe.
Marching as an army into battle they did go.
They believed that Christ the Lord their guardian would be.
They had learned they should live righteously.

7. Samuel the Lamanite, high on the city wall,
Came to warn the people, and repentance was his call.
Arrows could not hit him, for a man of God was he,
And he taught in the land righteously.

(Slowly and reverently)
8. After Christ was crucified and died for you and me,
He came forth to teach the truth to all who would be free.
Hands were laid upon each child. He blessed them tenderly,
And they lived in the land righteously.

As I Search the Holy Scriptures

1. As I search the holy scriptures,
Loving Father of mankind,
May my heart be blessed with wisdom,
And may knowledge fill my mind.

2. As I search the holy scriptures,
Touch my spirit, Lord, I pray.
May life’s myst’ries be unfolded
As I study day by day.

3. As I search the holy scriptures,
May thy mercy be revealed.
Soothe my troubled heart and spirit;
May my unseen wounds be healed.

4. As I search the holy scriptures,
Help me ponder and obey.
In thy word is life eternal;
May thy light show me the way.

FHE Lesson

*For Younger Children* Read or talk about “The Book of Mormon Teaches of Jesus Christ” (Jan 2012 Friend). Testify of the Book of Mormon.

The Old Testament tells us about Jesus Christ before He came to live on earth. He was called Jehovah. The Old Testament tells about people who followed Jehovah.

The New Testament is the book of scripture that tells us about Jesus’s life on earth. His disciples wrote about His life and His teachings.

The Book of Mormon also teaches about Jesus Christ and people who followed Him.

The Book of Mormon begins in Jerusalem during the time of the Old Testament, about 600 years before Jesus was born. It tells how the prophet Lehi and his family left Jerusalem and were led to a promised land, far across the ocean in the New World.

Prophets in the Book of Mormon taught that Jesus would come to earth. They also taught that repenting and following Jesus Christ would bring happiness.

After Jesus was crucified and resurrected in Jerusalem, He visited the New World to teach the people. He taught about baptism, the sacrament, and how to love others. He organized a church with twelve Apostles. He gathered the children and blessed them, just as He had in the New Testament.

Like the prophets in the Bible, Book of Mormon prophets shared their testimonies of Jesus Christ.

The last prophet in the Book of Mormon was Moroni, who lived about 400 years after Jesus visited the New World. Before he died, Moroni wrote that everyone who reads the Book of Mormon can know that it is true if he or she prays in faith. Moroni invited everyone to “come unto Christ” (Moroni 10:32).

Children today can also pray to receive a testimony that the Book of Mormon is true and that Jesus Christ is their Savior.

FHE Treat

Hot Vanilla or Raspberry Crumble Cakes

Hot Vanilla

1/2 cup of whipping cream
1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup
Dash of cinnamon
1 cup of milk (per hot vanilla)
2 teaspoons of sugar (per hot vanilla)
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (per hot vanilla)

1- Start with the topping. In a medium bowl, whip 1/2 cup of whipping cream until it’s frothy. Add 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup and a dash of cinnamon, then continue to whip the mixture until everything is well blended and peaks form. Makes enough to top about 6 drinks.

2- For each hot vanilla, microwave 1 cup of milk and 2 teaspoons of sugar in a mug for 90 seconds. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Top with a dollop of chocolate cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and a dash of cinnamon.

Raspberry Crumble Cakes

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup raspberry jam

1- Heat the oven to 375° F. Grease a 9-inch square pan with butter or cooking spray.

2- In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until they’re well blended. Add the flour and salt and beat just until the dough forms clumps. Don’t overmix. Lightly flour your hands, then place the dough on a piece of waxed paper and squeeze it into a ball (the warmth of your hands will soften the dough enough to hold it together).

3- Divide the dough into thirds. Crumble one third into a bowl and set it aside. Press the remaining 2 thirds evenly into the greased pan using the back of a spoon to smooth the surface. Bake it on the center oven rack until the edges are lightly golden, about 10 minutes.

4- Set the pan on a wire rack. While the shortbread cools, mix the oats and nuts into the reserved dough with your fingers until the mixture is crumbly.

5- Spread the raspberry jam on the cooled shortbread (it’s okay if it’s still warm), then evenly cover the jam with the crumb topping. Bake the bars until the topping is golden brown, about 24 minutes, then return the pan to the wire rack. While the shortbread is still slightly warm, cut it into 16 squares, then cut each square in half diagonally. Once the triangles cool completely (they are very fragile while warm), lift them from the pan with a spatula. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.
